    First Look: Palmas Tropical Escape

A new bar is bringing a taste of the tropics to Downtown. Palmas Tropical Escape opened its doors at 46 N. High St. last week.

The new concept comes courtesy of Omar D’Angelo, owner of Barroluco Argentine Comfort Food. Palmas shares a building with the restaurant, with the bar facing High Street and the eatery accessible from the alley at 47 N. Pearl St.

Bar-goers will sip on cocktails like Palomas, Mojitos and Piña & Coco Martinis while taking a trip around the world D’Angelo says. The plan is to bring in guest chefs and bartenders to present the cuisines and cocktails of other countries.

Palmas Tropical Escape currently offers a streamlined menu of eats, including empanadas, plantain chips & salsa, paella and more.

The location will also play host to a variety of events. D’Aneglo says to expect lots of different types of live music, salsa happy hours, Latin nights, dance parties and more. A grand opening party is slated for Friday, February 21 at 4 p.m.

Palmas is open Wednesday and Thursday from 4 – 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 4 p.m. – 12 a.m. Come spring, they’ll plan to be open for lunch and dinner and add a patio out front.
