First Look: Dueling Axes Axe Throwing Lounge
Dueling Axes urban axe throwing lounge celebrates it’s grand opening July 14 and 15. In announcing the lounge, co-owners Jess Hellmich and Paul Sherry boasted about it’s Downtown location. At 309 S. Fourth St., being Downtown allows Dueling Axes to be promoted as BYOB, inviting patrons to bring their own beer, wine, and food from nearby bars and restaurants.
The lounge is also the first of its kind in the area, adding a new experience to the Downtown nightlife scene.
“Axe throwing is still new,” says Sherry. “A lot of people don’t know that it’s available, let alone an activity Downtown. You don’t have to go really far out to some industrial park to do it.”
On entering Dueling Axes, the woodsy aesthetic in apparent. Pendant lanterns hang from the ceiling, dark leather couches line the designated lounge areas, and nearly everywhere you look is wood. ”We wanted to be ‘on trend.’ Chunky wood, metal accents,” says Hellmich. “Be part of the Downtown vibe that was already here.”
Guests will have eight throwing lanes and multiple seating areas at their disposal. For each game, a player is given 10 tries to get their axe to stick to the target. Similar to darts, guest can also play variant games like “pig” or “around the clock,” where throwers must hit each numbered target in consecutive order.
Dueling Axes will celebrate its grand opening on July 14 and 15 with specially priced reservations at $10 a person. Regular one-hour and two-hour reservations begin July 18.
