Double Comfort Restaurant, the social enterprise which donates a meal to a food pantry for every meal sold, opened quietly this past Saturday, July 19th, at 505 North High Street. The restaurant is the first for Mary Lyski and her husband, who took a fried chicken recipe supposedly handed down from an old riverboat captain, and turned it into the anchor of the new space.
Guests can order Fried Chicken Dinners in 2-piece, 3-piece, half chicken, and 12-piece. They’re served with brussels sprouts and cilantro-laced coleslaw and french fries for $10-$12.
There’s also a Chicken Fried Steak Dinner served with bacon gravy, as well as a Whole Roasted Ohio Organic Chicken on Bread Salad Dinner, which comes on a warm mix of crisp lettuces, currants, and pepitas, available for order.
Double Comfort also serves a selection of Po’ Boys, including Shrimp, Chicken Fried Steak, and Veggie, a Chow Chow Grilled Cheese Sandwich, and southern-inspired sides, like Bourbon Maple Syrup-Infused Baked Beans, Braised Greens, Brussels Sprouts, and Red Beans & Rice.
There are daily Blue Plate Specials available, like Wednesday’s Chicken & Dumplings and Thursday’s Seafood & Chicken Gumbo, for $9, as well as entrée salads, like the Farm Salad, with Lucky Penny goat cheese and fried green tomatoes, and the Double Comfort, topped with a fried egg.
There’s a full bar at Double Comfort offering local brews, wine by the glass, and specialty cocktails. And, of course, at Double Comfort, you eat with a mission, as every meal purchased there buys a meal for the hungry at a local food pantry.
“This is a casual place to get really great, from-scratch comfort food,” shares Lyski. “We love the idea of giving back, and we want our guests to keep that in the back of their minds as they eat. It just makes sense to donate what you can when you can, and here you do that while enjoying a good meal.”
Double Comfort Restaurant is open Tuesday through Saturday for lunch and dinner (closing hours tentatively set at 11pm), and Saturdays and Sundays for breakfast as well.
