First Look: Belgian Iron Wafel Co. Opens this Weekend
Belgian Iron Wafel Co. has officially opened its doors in the Short North, serving up sweet and savory “liege” wafels at 19 W. Russell St.
According to the owners Aimee and Brandon Harper, Liege wafels are a long way from the box waffles made at home, “made from our proprietary wafel dough recipe, not the soupy batter you grew up with.”
On the menu, guests can go with sweet wafels, like the Elvis, with nutella, bananas, whipped cream, bourbon-infused peanut butter and walnuts; or the salted chocolate caramel, among several others. On the savory side, there’s bacon, basil & brie; the hargess, topped with hash brown, spinach, quinoa, an over easy egg, green onions and cheddar; and the balsamic chicken sriracha, to name a few.
Flights of three wafels are also available, along with a full espresso bar. Items run between $8.50-$12.
It’s an intimate space offering about 36 seats total, including a mezzanine with soft seating.
