Reflecting the new federal and state deadlines, the City of Columbus has announced that the deadline to file and pay city income tax will be extended to July 15.

Taxpayers will automatically receive the extension without having to file any additional forms. The city will not assess penalty amounts on payments during the extension and interest charges on payments made during the extension are waived.

The filing extension and waiver of penalty and interest applies to individuals filing the Columbus individual income tax and businesses filing municipal net profit returns for tax year 2019. Individuals and businesses required to make quarterly estimated payments will also have until July 15 to make first quarter payments (typically due April 15) and second quarter payments (typically due June 15).

The extension does not apply to employer deposits of withholding or returns for hotel/motel/short-term rental tax or admissions tax.

The federal government officially extended the deadline to July 15 to file and pay federal income tax on March 21.

On March 27 it was also announced that the State of Ohio would follow the federal government in extending the deadline to file and pay state income tax to July 15. The Ohio order mirrors the city order in waiving penalty and interest, and extending first and second quarterly estimated payments to July 15.

The new deadline to file and pay local, state and federal income tax is now July 15.
