The concert venue formerly known at the LC Pavilion will officially become Express Live!, as a new branding, signage and lighting package officially received approval from the Downtown Commission this morning. Dan Hanes, a representative from the local offices of architectural firm HOK, presented the plans to the commission, who had not previously seen the plans in the form of a submission packet in advance.
“Sorry for the cloak and dagger presentation, but we’ve been trying to keep it quiet,” explained Hanes, who noted that they had met previously City of Columbus Urban Design Manager Daniel Thomas in advance to explain the circumstances.
In addition to new signage, the plan calls for repainting the brick facade in a solid black color to match Express branding elements, with new LED lights on the building that could change colors, but would primarily display in blue.
“Bold,” exclaimed commission member Mike Brown. “Motion to accept.”
The plans were approved unanimously. A formal joint announcement from Promowest Productions and Express is expected tomorrow to provide additional details.
The news is the second big announcement from Promowest Productions in the past week, which also revealed the launch of a new music festival coming to Columbus in July.
