Artists’ Statements:

I’m a Columbus based artist & 2019 CCAD graduate with a major in animation & minor in illustration. Todd Schorr, Robert Williams, Dawud Anyabwile & Lee Quinones are big influences. My hope is to keep growing as a visual artist & to specifically inspire Black and Brown people to do more lowbrow and/or surreal art styled art. Personally, I feel they’re the most no holds barred of genres. I use acrylic as the main medium but other than that I do what I want to do as an artistic outlaw. Currently I’m adjusting and readjusting to our current reality.

Kent: I’m a self-taught artist who didn’t start painting seriously until the age of 40. I’ve become known for my wood cut portraits which I never really set out to do but I never really set out to be a painter either so I’m plenty content to roll with it. I’ve shown both locally & nationally & have sold work internationally. I mostly use acrylic on wood & sometimes found objects can find their way into the mix. When not doing portraiture I prefer to lean in the direction of warped & silly & have hopes the body of work in this show will evoke as much head shaking as it does smiles & laughter. I’ve also played drums in bands for over three decades & write short stories & poetry & had a book of haiku & art published in 2018.

Kent & Frank: Basically this show is the output of a friendship forged from two years of hanging out & painting together. Initially we got together to do some collaborating just for fun & ended up having so much fun we just kept at it & started thinking maybe our creations would make for a good show. The whole process has been very organic with an “anything goes” attitude & both parties fully supportive of the other’s ideas. In time a level of trust was built as both of us became very open to one another’s suggestions for making our individual efforts look as best as they could as a whole. No one got up in their feelings over any critical input of highlights, shadows, color choices, etc. We both have backgrounds creating music with other people so in a lot of ways this felt like being a two man visual band.
