Starting Monday July 22, 2019, a two-week experiment will remove all parking and valet during the week from 3-6p to create a shared bus/bike/scooters lane on the far right side of Third Street. Drivers will be prohibited from entering this lane prematurely to turn right during these hours. I’m sure many of you have experienced and/or witnessed COTA buses having to play Frogger in and out of the congested travel lanes. This experiment is a ‘light’ version of what dedicated bus lanes could do in other cities. Additionally, there has been some concern that mixing buses with people who are riding bikes could have safety concerns.
I’d like for this event page to reach as many folks as possible and ask them to ride their bikes or scooters on Third St during the designated times from July 22nd-Aug 2nd. I’d like for people to comment on this event page and voice your thoughts: Does the experiment work for you? Does it not work for you? Do you feel safe or less safe? It’s really important for as many of us to voice our thoughts.
