Broadway’s Nick Adams to Guest Star with Celebrated New YorkTroupe
Columbus, Ohio, January 9,2018— “The Skivvies,” the sensational “undie
rock” group from New York will bring their wildly popular music and comedy
act to Columbus on April 28 for two performances in Short North Stage’s
The duo—Lauren Molina and Nick Cearley—are both veterans of the
Broadway stage, but have gained notoriety in the New York cabaret scene
and venues across the country for performing in just their fashionable
skivvies, usually with a celebrity guest star. For their Columbus debut they’ll
bring Broadway star Nick Adams, voted one of Broadway’s sexiest men, to
join their stripped-down music and humor review.
The duo performs an eclectic variety of cover songs and eccentric
originals, using multiple musical instruments ranging from cello to ukulele,
glockenspiel and melodica. The New York Times calls them “a hot musical
comedy duo specializing in unexpected arrangements, incongruous
mashups, and of course, highly toned displays of skin.”
People Magazine named The Skivvies “The Most Playful Performers” in its “Most Talked
about Bodies of 2014” issue, and Sports Illustrated named them “Favorite New Band.” They are regulars at such New York hot spots as 54 Below, 42 West, The Highline Ballroom, Roseland Ballroom and Joe’s Pub.
For Nick Cearley, the gig is an Ohio homecoming. He hails from the Cincinnati suburb of Fairfield. He performed in the first national tour of All Shook Up as well as Buyer and Cellar and The Rocky Horror Show at the Bucks County Playhouse. Out Magazine selected him in 2014 as one of the most intriguing LGBT actors of the year. Molina, who the Chicago Sun Times lauded as “a petite firecracker with comic brilliance and a soaring voice” for her portrayal of Cunegonde in Candide at the Goodman Theater, performed on Broadway in Rock of Ages. She also won the prestigious Helen Hayes Award in Washington DC for repeating her starring role in Candide. The duo met in 2002 performing in a national tour and quickly became best friends and musical collaborators. They began performing together in New York, fully dressed. In 2012 they created The Skivvies and became Youtube sensations with their unique covers of such artists as Robyn, Carole King and Rihanna. The videos led to sold out live shows in New York, Los Angeles and other cities. Guest star Nick Adams is well-known for his stand-out Broadway roles, including Adam/Felicia in Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, Fiyero in Wicked, Angelique in La Cage aux Folles, as well as A Chorus Line and Chicago. He’s been a popular performer in the Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS annual fundraiser Broadway Bares.
The Skivvies and Nick Adams will perform two shows on Saturday, April 28—at 6 and 9 pm in the Garden Theater’s Green Room, 1187 North High Street. Tickets run $45. Seats are limited. They will be available starting Monday, February 19 at 10 a.m. Bargain Flash seats for $28 will be go on sale from February 19 to 23.
