Ohio History Connection’s Curator of Archaeology, Dr. Brad Lepper, joins us to explore the Great Hopewell Road.
A set of parallel earthen walls were built by Native American Hopewell people who lived in Ohio circa 1-400 AD. The road’s ultimate destination is a mystery, but it may have been a route of pilgrimage that connected the two grandest centers of the Hopewell world: the Newark Earthworks and the Hopewell Mounds near Chillicothe – more than 60 miles away.
