The Bloody Handprint & Other Tales

October 24, 2018 7:00 pm @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Join us at Bottoms Up Coffee in historic Franklinton for an evening of ghost stories and neighborhood lore. Bottoms Up was established as a social enterprise with a mission to lower the high infant mortality rate in Franklinton. Today, that mission continues under new ownership by Cova Cowork, a team of four social entrepreneurs. Bottoms Up is located in a 1916 post office building that features an exterior mural depicting the resiliency of the neighborhood following the Great Flood of 1913.

During the month of October, The Bloody Handprint, a digital print by Rick Limes, a Franklinton artist who works out of 400 W. Rich Street, will be on display at Bottoms Up Coffee. Individuals who visit the coffee shop are encouraged to write a short story (125 words or less) about why there is a bloody hand print on the window … the best story will win the artwork! Stories can be added to the designated notebook or emailed to [email protected] – please be sure to provide your contact information in case you are the winner! Deadline for submissions is October 21. You do not need to write a story to attend this event, of course. Likewise, you do not need to attend the event to submit a story and win!

An orator will select and read five of these stories at our event, and we’ll also share some of our authentic ghost stories collected over many decades that are sure to send a shiver up your spine. As the city’s oldest neighborhood, Franklinton also has the oldest ghost stories and other tales suited for telling around the fireplace of a pioneer tavern. In lieu of an 18th century tavern, Bottoms Up is the perfect venue for tales of daring and heroism, Indian captivity stories, and legends that come straight from early Franklinton chronicles. Bottoms Up coffee/cider and a Tupelo donut are included in your ticket.

Parking is available in the back lot, on street, and in the nearby “fuel office” lot. Event capacity is limited and advance tickets are required. Proceeds from the event will be divided to benefit Columbus Landmarks as we advocate for historic preservation and Cova Cowork as they work to reduce infant mortality. We thank you for your support!
