The Ancient American Indian Mounds of Central Ohio

April 24, 2018 7:00 pm @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Brad Lepper, curator of archeology at the Ohio History Connection, will speak on the topic of central Ohio earthworks at the Shrum mound in Campbell Memorial Park, 3200 McKinley Avenue. Lepper, who writes a monthly archeology column in the Columbus Dispatch, will talk about the Shrum mound, which is named for the family who occupied the property for generations, the massive mound that stood at the current intersection of Mound and High streets when Columbus was settled and other ancient earthworks in the area, including those near Newark. He will also talk about the Adena culture which is responsible for them. He is the author of the book, Ohio Archaeology: an illustrated chronicle of Ohio’s ancient American Indian cultures, published in 2005 by Orange Frazer Press. He earned his B.A. degree from the University of New Mexico and his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the Ohio State University. Attendees are invited to bring foldup chairs to the program.

The event is free, but registration is required.
