The City of Columbus strives to support growth, access, and mobility for residents, business owners, employees and visitors to its central neighborhoods through active parking management. This planning process will develop a unique framework for operating and managing parking to provide a high-quality customer experience and support vibrant, accessible, and thriving neighborhoods. The process was initiated through the City of Columbus and is being guided by a Task Force made up of residents and business owners from each study area.

The Strategic Parking Plans will include a report of existing parking conditions and behavior, strategic and dynamic parking management strategies, and parking demand management recommendations. This plan will also serve as a template for the City of Columbus Division of Parking Services to – in conjunction with neighborhood stakeholders – evaluate and implement specific parking management changes. These strategies could include permit programs and pricing aimed at improving access. The process is a unique opportunity to think creatively about the future of the areas and develop logical strategies to improve their efficiency and quality of place.

Along with the Task Force, the study is being led by the City of Columbus Division of Parking Services, and a consultant team which includes Kimley-Horn, Framework, and Planning Next. Community input is a critical component of the strategy and public insights are crucial. These workshops will be open to the public and be informative, interactive and fun. The planning team will share some background about the process along with key data points collected and analyzed to date. Most of the time, however, will be spent collecting community input through interactive activities and discussions.

Following the meetings, the Planning Team will work with the Task Force to develop a recommendations framework for each study area.

The Strategic Parking Plan began with data collection in November 2018 and will conclude by August 2019. To find out more about the process, please review the webpage at www.parkcolumbus.com.
