Speak Easy Presents “Take It Back,” its December Storytelling Event

December 6, 2018 7:00 pm @ 7:00 pm

  • Sumo

Speak Easy, Columbus’ long-running monthly open mic storytelling series, will host its next event Thursday, December 6th.

The event, which features true, “first-person” stories told live onstage, centers on a different theme each month. December’s is “Take It Back! Stories of Bad Gifts and Other Things We Didn’t Ask For.” Producer Karl Boettcher says the theme is a nod toward Christmas, but is open to wide interpretation. “The monthly themes are more of a carrot than a stick—they’re meant as a gentle prompt for folks who are having a hard time thinking of a story. They aren’t strict rules people need to adhere to. “

Boettcher added that December’s event will include a “special treat” for the audience, as well as a surprise guest host. However, he was unwilling to provide details about either of those things. “You’ll have to show up to find out.”

Speak Easy is held at 7PM the first Thursday of every month, at Wild Goose Creative, 2491 Summit Street. Like most open-mic-style events, Speak Easy has a signup sheet, and ten storytellers are chosen each month on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, go to www.speakeasycbus.org.
