September Gallery Hop

September 4

On Saturday, Sept. 4, gallery lovers are invited to the Art + Soul of Columbus for Gallery Hop. The event, which occurs on the first Saturday of each month, will feature several new exhibitions, along with the welcomed reopening of the Pizzuti Collection of the Columbus Museum of Art. Gallery Hop activities start as early as 1 p.m.

New exhibitions for September Gallery Hop include “Columbus Illuminated” by Mark Gingerich at Brandt-Roberts Galleries; “Transformation” by Izumi Yokoyama at (Not) Sheep Gallery; “Flutterby” by Bruce Robinson and “To Feel Something That Was Not of Our World” by Nina Katchadourian at the Pizzuti Collection of the Columbus Museum of Art; “I’m in Love with the Ordinary” by Jennifer Small at Sarah Gormley Gallery; “SOFT SHOW” by Alissa Head at Sean Christopher Gallery Ohio; and “Cuttings: Collages” by Michael J. Rosen at Sharon Weiss Gallery.

Gallery Hoppers are encouraged to get a jump start on their Columbus Makes Art Passport by visiting local galleries and getting a stamp in their passport in the form of local artist-designed stickers. The Columbus Makes Art Passport is a free booklet that lists 60+ art experiences around Columbus, including many Short North Arts District galleries. Passport holders are able to redeem their stickered passports online for prizes such as signed artist prints, tickets to events, restaurant gift cards, and even a one-night stay at the LeVeque Hotel or a private screening of a movie at the Gateway Film Center.

Live mural-making in the Short North Arts District continues during September Gallery Hop with local artists Felicia Dunson and Lance Johnson adding to “Summer Spray,” a multi-weekend collaborative mural event. “Summer Spray” participating artist Nicholas Schukay will be exhibiting his works, in collaboration with Sharon Weiss Gallery, at 875 N. High St., located between Bonobos and FERA. “Summer Spray” is a project of the Short North Alliance and presented by PNC Bank, with additional support from the Greater Columbus Arts Council, the Ohio Arts Council, Pizzuti and the Short North Alliance Art Fund.
