Worthington artist Rebecca Burdock of Rebecca Ink., LLC exhibits a collection of her original pen and ink artwork at Highline Coffee Art Space in Worthington from July 2 through August 31, 2018. An artist reception is scheduled for Saturday, July 21, 2-4pm.
With a background in fine arts and graphic design, Rebecca creates her pen and ink drawings by marrying simple, bold lines with fine, intricate details. Using shapes found in nature to influence her final pieces, Rebecca says she takes inspiration from “just about anything and everything.”
“My process is uncomplicated,” Rebecca explains. “I put pen to paper. Typically, I do not sketch things out ahead of time. I like to see where my marks take me as I build a drawing. I tend to lose myself when I begin to do the detail work. Ultimately, I want my drawings to bring people a sense of joy while they discover something new every time they look at my work.”
Primarily working in black and white on Bristol board and using a variety of pens, Rebecca occasionally paints on canvas with acrylics and then draws over the paint. Currently, she’s creating a new series of coloring pages featuring cats and dogs that should be ready sometime in the summer.
Her prints and other collateral work are in several locations around central Ohio, including Igloo Letterpress in Worthington, Pure Roots in Westerville, and Clintonville’s Firefly Play Cafe and Eat Purr Love Cat Cafe, where sales of her cat prints help raise money for local cat shelters.
