**THIS CLASS MEETS ONLINE ON THE ZOOM VIDEO PLATFORM.** MONDAY, APRIL 6 | 6:00 – 8:00 pm | How Short Pieces Can Help Every Writer Attain Goals in 1000 Words or Less | Instructor: Brooke Preston | Whether you’re writing a screenplay, novel, or memoir, it’s easy to overlook the importance of short-form works like short stories, essays, excerpts, and articles. Yet agents, publishers, and audiences often find long-form authors through their shorter works—it happened to the leader of this workshop, Brooke Preston, and multiple people she knows. Brooke will teach you several ways short form works can be useful, even to writers of longer form books and works, and lead you in writing and brainstorming exercises to find the right short form pieces to help you reach your writing and publishing goals. | INSTRUCTOR: Brooke Preston is an Ohio-based comedy writer, satirist, and storyteller. Her work has been featured on McSweeney’s, Reductress, Romper, Men’s Health, The Huffington Post, and other fine outlets and crumpled napkins; she is a proud faculty member of The Second City, where she teaches the online satire writing program. Brooke is a co-founder and editor of The Belladonna Comedy, an online satire publication by women and non-binary writers, for everyone. She and her fellow editors co-wrote the satire book New Erotica for Feminists: Satirical Fantasies of Love, Lust and Equal Pay.
