**THIS CLASS MEETS ONLINE ON THE ZOOM VIDEO PLATFORM.** | SATURDAY, MAY 23 | 9:00 am – noon | The Politics of Poetry: Poetry As Activism | Instructor: Scott Woods | Award-winning writer Scott Woods was the recipient of the 2018 Columbus Foundation Spirit of Columbus Award and the 2017 GCAC Columbus Makes Art Excellence Award, and was named the first-ever “Face of Columbus” by Columbus Alive. He will facilitate a poetry generation class about how to create work that gets people to listen, support, and understand their causes. The class will break down how to merge the creative and activist sides of your life to create meaningful poems that resonate in both arenas. This class encompasses writing exercises, discussion, critique, and more. | INSTRUCTOR: Scott Woods is a writer and event organizer in Columbus, Ohio. He is the author of Urban Contemporary History Month (2016), We Over Here Now (2013), and Prince and Little Weird Black Boy Gods (2017), and has been featured multiple times in national press, including multiple appearances on National Public Radio. He is the founder of Streetlight Guild, a performing arts non-profit, and is the co-founder of Writers’ Block Poetry Night.
