Nationally-renowned Columbus drag performer will host feisty, fun sing-along program
(Columbus, Ohio) – The independent, nonprofit Gateway Film Center proudly announces the triumphant return of our sassiest series ever! On Saturday, March 31 we welcome back Nina West in a bigger, louder, and sing-songier program than ever before!
The Nina West Presents! screening schedule includes official sing-along versions of some of Nina’s very favorite musicals ever, ending with the most fabulous holiday extravaganza this side of the North Pole:
· March 31, 6 p.m. – WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY (1971)
· May 26, 6 p.m. – MARY POPPINS (1964)
· July 4, 6 p.m. – GREASE (1978) 40th anniversary
· August 22, 7 p.m. – THE WIZARD OF OZ (1939)
· October 6, 6 p.m. – THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW (1975)
· December 22, 6 p.m. – NINA WEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT
“We’re looking every day to give Columbus new experiences and new ways of seeing movies,” said GFC President Chris Hamel. “And what better way to enjoy a musical than with national sensation and Columbus’ premier entertainer, Nina West?!”
While it drew fans from around the city in its first incarnation, both Hamel and West worked to find a way to make the experience even more fun on its return, Hamel said. The program, which has always paired movies with West’s bawdy comedic performances, will return as a full-on sing-along series, presenting musicals with captions in a sing-your-heart-out, no-judgement atmosphere.
“There’s no better way to spend a night out than laughing and singing along to a musical, and there’s no better place to do that than at the Gateway Film Center,” said Nina. “This will be the most fun you can legally have in a movie theater.”
So, bring your singing voice – and come in costume if you’re so inclined – and settle in for a new tradition. The fun begins at 4:30 p.m. on March 31. Each Nina West Presents! screening begins with a mixer with Nina in the GFC lounge 90 minutes before showtime. Tickets are $15 ($25 for the Christmas Pageant) and available at www.gatewayfilmcenter.org.
