The Short North Civic Association invites you to a special neighborhood meeting hosted by CASTO on Wednesday, February 26th from 7:00-8:00 pm in the former Giant Eagle Store at 765 Neil Ave. CASTO will use this time to present the historical background associated with the Giant Eagle site, constraints the developer must work within in order to redevelop the center, and to solicit neighborhood feedback. We do not expect to see actual building drawings since it is early in the process. This is a good time to provide neighborhood input before the process moves to the next stage.
The current shopping center is a result of “urban renewal” that dramatically altered the historic fabric of parts of Victorian Village. Recognizing that the businesses in the shopping center are an asset to the neighborhood, the design has never been appropriate for a historic neighborhood. The recent closure of Giant Eagle provides a great opportunity to mitigate previous damage by creating a more appropriate development that also provides access to businesses that enhance the neighborhood.
While the site is in Victorian Village, it is not in an area subject to review by the Victorian Village Commission so this is the neighborhood’s opportunity to learn more about the prospective plans and offer constructive feedback.
