Shimu works in a clothing factory in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Faced with difficult, cruel conditions at work, she decides to start a union with her coworkers. Despite threats from management and the disapproval of her husband, Shimu is determined to go on, and together the women fight to find a way. The director of the controversial Meherjaan (2011) and herself a feminist organizer in Bangladesh, Hossain made the film with a majority woman crew.
