Hitchcocktober 2019

October 23 @ 7:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every day that begins at 7:00 pm, repeating until October 31, 2019 12:00 am

Once a year, the independent, nonprofit Gateway Film Center presents Hitchcocktober, a nationally celebrated one-of-a-kind Hitchcock review that screens beloved standards and underseen gems – giving audiences an opportunity to test their mettle against the Master of Suspense all October long.

Today, on what would have been the master’s 120th birthday, the film center has revealed their lineup of nine Hitchcock features for Hitchcocktober 2019.

“We invented Hitchcocktober to offer the city a chance to see the greatest suspense movies of all time on the big screen, in a theater with friends and fans,” said Gateway Film Center President Chris Hamel. “Each year we try to exceed the quality and experience of the year before by adding new movies and twists.”

For the 2019 program, seven of the nine films will screen from 35mm prints, affording moviegoers the same viewing experience they would have had at Hitchcock’s premieres. Dial M for Murder (1954), celebrating its 65th anniversary, returns in ultra-rare 3D; the only film Hitchcock shot in the format. Vertigo (1958) returns and will be presented on a rarely-screened 70mm print. Finally, the 2019 lineup brings series premiere Stage Fright (1958) in 35mm starting on October 7th.

To make all the features easy to see, the film center will maintain a schedule of daily screenings for all of Hitchcocktober:

· A Hitchcock film at 7 p.m. every single day in October.
· A 2 p.m. matinee on Saturdays and Sundays.

And new this year, the film center will kick off the series with a Hitchcocktober Preview on Sunday, September 29 at 2 p.m. At this preview, you will hear from President Chris Hamel, Hitchcock experts, and fellow film lovers to support the film center in launching another year of this signature series. The elevated ticket price includes access to a private reception in the film center lounge with Hitchcock-themed specials, guided tours of the film center control room, as well as the first Hitchcocktober 2019 screening of Vertigo (1958) in 70mm.

“There is so much to see and appreciate during Hitchcocktober,” Hamel said. “Whether you love a great thrill as a moviegoer, are a cinephile with a taste for the best, or you’re a filmmaker studying the art form, you’ll find yourself discovering something new and exciting in every film.”
