History After Hours: Bad Medicine

September 21 @ 7:00 pm

Explore the Ohio History Center after hours, grab a drink and some snacks and dive into the interesting world of medical history. We’ll explore historic wellness and health fads, take a look at patent medicines and cure-alls, show shocking sports injuries and much more in this fun adults-only evening.

Must be 21 and over to attend. Tickets must be purchased in advance.

Some of the things you’ll get to experience at History After Hours:
Learn about the many historic uses of common poisons, from calming a crying baby to dilating your pupils.
Take a look at medical practices throughout history, from basic medicine to trauma care.
Discover the wonders of leeches – a popular 19th-century treatment that is still used today.
See how patent medicines were used in the 19th- and early-20th centuries, and what very questionable ingredients they often included.
Join a curator and check out some of the medical objects from our collection.
And much more!
