On Jan. 2, the first Saturday of the new year and what’s also known as Columbus’ favorite day of the month to celebrate art, art lovers can “meet” gallery owners via Virtual Gallery Hop on the @ShortNorthArtsDIstrict Instagram. This January, Short North Arts District galleries are ushering in the new year with new exhibitions and the continuation of multiple fan-favorite small works shows.
January’s exhibitions include new exhibitions “New Year | New Art for January 2021” at Brandt-Roberts Galleries, featuring new work by gallery artists created in the harrowing year of 2020; “Women’s Work: Redress” at (Not) Sheep Gallery, which presents work, done by women, in methods traditionally considered “women’s work”, i.e., sewing, embroidery, knitting, and weaving, that address issues of the environment, sexism and gender issues including poverty; and Susanne Dotson’s “Can You Tell Me Who I Am?” at Sarah Gormley Gallery, a series inspired by a mother-daughter relationship as it navigates dementia. Popular annual small works and gifting exhibitions “Small & Wonderful” from Hammond Harkins Galleries and “The Art of Gifting” from Studios on High Gallery will continue through the month of January, as will “Allusions to Other” by artist John A. Sargent III at Sean Christopher Gallery Ohio.
Select art galleries are offering private appointments and online showrooms. Specific details on how to shop and explore Short North Arts District galleries during this time can be found at ShortNorth.org/ArtByAppointment.
