Due to overwhelming interest from the community, the Franklin County Dog Shelter will again host three holiday sleepovers in 2019. These events allow for community members to foster shelter dogs over holiday vacations. This is a wonderful opportunity to allow the dogs some time away from the stresses of the shelter. It also gives potential adopters time with a dog they may consider welcoming into their home. And while the dogs are out on their sleepover, staff are able to give the shelter a good deep-cleaning.
The sleepover schedule is as follows:
Thanksgiving Sleepover: Wednesday, November 27, to Saturday, November 30.
Christmas Sleepover: Monday, December 23, to Friday, December 27.
New Year’s Sleepover: Monday, December 30, to Thursday, January 2.
Dogs are chosen on the first day of the sleepover and will go home with their foster family. These dogs should be returned to the shelter on the final day of the sleepover. Individuals interested in adopting their foster dog should return to the shelter and finalize their adoption on the last day as well. The shelter provides food, medicine, and 24-hour support for participating foster families. All adoption fees are $18.
Details about the November sleepover have been announced on the shelter Facebook page @franklincountydogs. Dogs will be available to foster on a first come basis. Photographs of dogs and their foster families will be taken by Wen Pet Studios. There will be a bake sale in support of SOS of Ohio, and 104.9 the River will be on-site with a prize wheel and the River Dog mascot. Last year, over 500 families signed-up to participate in the shelter’s holiday sleepover program.
