JULY 11TH FROM 6 TO 9 PM — Join us for the very special opening of ‘Emergence’, featuring works from Columbus artist Lynda McClanahan!
“Like so many others, I spent most of my time in quarantine and lockdown making art. The re-entry into public life in the midst of the Great Pandemic of 2020 is full of griefs and surprises. The unspeakable death of George Floyd and accompanying protests, the never-ending grind of absurdist, hellish political theater, and the ever-present menace of climate change are a weight on the mind and spirit. These paintings are a visual contemplation on re-emergence and the isolation which preceded it. Of special interest to me, personally, is the concept of fate, or whatever we want to call that which cannot be controlled in life. My version of the “Royal Game of the Goose” is contemplation on what it means to win a game solely by a roll of the dice. It is my hope that it is possible to simultaneously acknowledge the wild card in life and celebrate the general context in which it occurs.”
