Columbus Buddy Walk

October 3

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every day that begins at 12:00 am, repeating until October 4, 2020 12:00 am

The Down Syndrome Association of Central Ohio (DSACO) is pleased to announce the 19th annual occurrence of their signature fundraiser, the Columbus Buddy Walk®, is going virtual in 2020. As the second largest Buddy Walk in the country, DSACO hopes to continue with another banner year—except this year each of the hundreds of teams will play host. Over the course of DSACO’s Walk Your Way Weekend on October 3-4, team captains will celebrate their loved one with Down syndrome however they choose, whether it be a walk in a local park, a tailgate-style driveway party, or a drive-by parade of cars.

“This is a unique opportunity to engage our families and their communities in a whole new way. Our teams will have the opportunity to celebrate their friends, classmates, and neighbors maybe even more easily than in years past,” said Kari Jones, president and chief executive officer of DSACO. “When people come from all over our 23-county service area for this event, it’s sometimes much easier for them to not have to drive a long way to Columbus. Instead, they can celebrate on the block outside their house or right inside their own home.”

“We felt it was important to give people the freedom to participate in whatever way they felt most comfortable this year. We would never want any of our families to have to choose between celebrating their loved one and putting their health at risk.”

Funds raised through the Columbus Buddy Walk® will provide critically needed community programs and services.

$100 will fund one family’s participation in DSACO’s Financial Assistance Program, affording them food, diapering supplies, and other essentials each month
$200 will fund one New Parent Welcome Package for new or expectant parents who have a baby diagnosed with Down syndrome
$500 will fund a workshop for parents on a topic such as education law, potty training, or guardianship & estate planning
$1,000 will fund materials, babysitting and refreshments for one of DSACO’s 15 resource, support, or activity groups
$2,500 will fund one week’s supplies of summer activity kits for people with Down syndrome and their families
