CMA Free Weekends in January

January 23 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 10:00 am on Sunday and Saturday, repeating until January 31, 2021 12:00 am

Starting on January 2, visitors to the Columbus Museum of Art (CMA) will enjoy five consecutive weekends of free general admission. CMA will offer free general admission on all Saturdays throughout the month of January, providing enhanced access to the public. This gift to the community came from the community in the form of an anonymous donation by a Museum patron wishing to lift people’s spirits and give shared hope for the future. The donation covered the cost of four consecutive Saturdays, Jan 2 – 23. Inspired by this act of generosity, members of the Museum interest group CMA Council stepped up to cover the final Saturday, January 30. Saturday visitors will also receive a 30% discount at the Museum Store and Schokko Café through January 2021. Schokko Café is currently open for carry-out service only.

“I believe we are all searching for ways to connect and support each other during these difficult times,” said Nannette Maciejunes, executive director of CMA. “Our creative Columbus-area philanthropists found a unique way to give back during the pandemic, and we are honored to be able to offer this remarkable gift to the community in a time when art, joy and beauty are so important.”

These five weeks of Free Saturdays are combined with CMA’s ongoing Free Sundays which are part of a larger Free for the Future initiative to provide free access on Sundays for the next five years. Free Sundays is made possible through the generous support of many Central Ohio companies and individuals who have supported this wonderful gift to the community (www.columbusmuseum.org/visiting/cmafreesundays).

Free general admission includes the 2020 Greater Columbus Arts Council Visual Awards Exhibition as well as two new installations from the Museum’s permanent collection, including a contemporary glass presentation featuring Christopher Reese’s Sunflower. The critically acclaimed special exhibition Raggin’ On: The Art of Aminah Brenda Lynn Robinson’s House and Journals is open with a special admission surcharge of $8. CMA’s traditional annual exhibition, Think Outside the Brick, celebrating the creative potential of LEGO® bricks has been postponed to April 2021.

Tickets and updates are available at www.columbusmuseum.org and through CMA’s social media channels. CMA will also continue to share ways to stay connected from home through creative challenges, virtual programs and more.
