Clean Water for Craft Beer Series

January 20, 2020 6:00 pm @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Join us in exploring the singular and diverse world of Columbus Craft Beer. In this monthly series, we’ll talk with the brewers and guests who know a lot about Clean water and how important it is for our people and this phenomenal burgeoning industry!

On Jan 20, 2020, we kick off the series at Lineage Brewery: “At our Columbus Ohio brewery, beer is a lot like family. Both are grounded in tradition, yet constantly evolving. To us, the word lineage means caring about where you came from and contributing to what you leave behind. As a result, Lineage Brewing® pays homage to the tradition of craft beer by expanding upon age-old techniques with new flavor combinations that would make our ancestors proud.”

Our first guests will be Will Falk and Tish O’Dell from the Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund. celdf.org
They will talk and share some great film clips of upcoming movies and the hilarious Lake Erie Bill of Rights episode on the Daily Show with Trevor Noah.
Come enjoy a beer 🍺 with us!

Will Falk, a writer, lawyer, and genuinely the kindest person you’ll ever meet (personal opinion), cut his teeth on rights of nature work when he helped to file the first-ever American federal lawsuit seeking rights for a major ecosystem, the Colorado River, in 2017. His book How Dams Fall, narrating his experiences with the lawsuit, was published in August, 2019.

Will started with CELDF in May, 2018 and he primarily assists CELDF’s Ohio efforts when not at a Phish show (Seriously Will, 56? That’s impressive). He has published many essays on the rights of nature with platforms such as the San Diego Free Press, CATALYST Magazine, Canary Literary Magazine, Earth Island Journal, CounterPunch, and the Deep Green Resistance News Service, among others.

We asked Will to describe a world built on the rights of nature and we were NOT disappointed: “I want to see a world where nature does not need rights, a world where each individual human recognizes a responsibility to ensure nature flourishes and thrives. I want to see a world where forests are no longer clearcut, carcinogens are no longer pumped into water, species are no longer driven to extinction before their time. I want to see a world with more grizzly bears, more wolves, more salmon, more rivers that flow to the sea.”

Tish O’Dell, Since joining CELDF in 2013, after the passage of the first Community Bill of Rights in Ohio, Tish has worked to assist other community members in more than a dozen counties.

In 2016, she danced into Toledo and since then has helped numerous citizens demand a healthy and sustainable environment. She has worked with the OHCRN to develop an Ohio Community Rights Workshop, two state constitutional amendments, and coordinate the first statewide community rights conference, titled Growing Roots and Rights for Just Communities.

She’s kind of epic honestly. She wanted to be Cher when she was young, and you can still hear her sing like Linda Ronstadt if you know her well enough. For those of you who don’t have that option, you’ll have to settle with hearing her voice on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah and in the film We The People 2.0.
