Back-to-school can be expensive! According to the National Retail Federation, families with children in elementary through high school plan to spend an average $684.79.
Charity Newsies, the organization that has provided children in Franklin County with new school clothes since 1907 will open its headquarters at 4300 Indianola Ave. for the 2018-2019 school year on Monday, Aug. 6-Friday, Dec. 7
Upon successful completion of an application, a clothing appointment to select a coat, shirts, pants, underwear and socks at Charity Newsies will be scheduled. Students will also receive voucher redeemable at Payless Shoe Store towards a new pair of shoes. Charity Newsies also offers school uniform choices as well as vocational school uniform assistance.
Eligibility and application requirements:
• Application must be completed by a parent or legal guardian;
• Each applicant must live in Franklin County;
• Verified attendance at a Franklin County K-12 school (public, private, charter or parochial); and
• A valid photo ID, social security card and proof of income (a recent pay stub or Human Services Benefit summary)
Last year, Charity Newsies provided approximately 13,000 children in grades K-12 with new school clothes.
