Visual artist and independent art curator Don Scott exhibits part of his “CHAOS: Inside Out” series at Highline Coffee Art Space in Worthington beginning January 4, 2019.
A mixed media artist whose works are rooted in the photographic image, Scott relies on the world of nature, particularly the landscape and the flora within it, as his primary source of inspiration. Much of his work evolves as he experiments with a variety of media and alternative processes.
“The CHAOS series began innocently enough when I tested a new way of capturing an image that I had never tried before,” Scott explains. “Initially, the results were disappointing, but working my way through many failures led me to embrace the perspective of being both inside and outside a chaotic environment. I’ve also been working on a yet-unnamed dream series, and I’ve discovered some overlap between the two. These two series express some of the experiences and visuals—sometimes calming, other times disturbing—that I’ve recalled not only from REM periods of sleep but also from recent events occurring in my daily life.”
As the director of Highline Coffee Art Space, Scott continues to showcase the work of emerging, mid-career, and established artists who live in the central Ohio area. Over time, the Art Space presents a broad spectrum of media and styles, from acrylic and oil paintings to fine art photographs and mixed media work, and from realism to abstract art.
