Change Starts Now: A Solidarity March for Community Empowerment

June 13, 2020 11:00 am @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm

Columbus- Enough is Enough!

On Saturday, June 13th, a march will take place from the front steps of the Ohio Statehouse to the Columbus Police Department HQ at 120 Marconi Blvd. We will gather in front of the statehouse starting at 11am and we will begin our march shortly after 12 noon. We will have a shortlist of speakers who will address attendees.

We are marching to demonstrate our belief that when we, as a community, stand up and demand change in our society, change that serves the people will come, by any means necessary. Whether that change is from the top to bottom, the complete defunding of the police department in Columbus or the abolishment of our current criminal justice system, our message is clear: the people deserve better and we will get exactly what we wish.

Policing in America and policing right here in Columbus, Ohio is broken- flat out. For too long our tax dollars have funded the militarization of a racist and oppressive police force that has murdered countless numbers of Black and Brown people with little to no consequence. They know what they’ve done to us. They know what they’ve done to our communities and more importantly, they know that the reforms the people have been demanding for years have fallen on willingly deaf ears by both our stated enemies and our false friends. This is bigger than politics and this is bigger than the system we have in place in our community. This is about the people taking power from those who have constructed and maintained a system of white supremacy and coming up with solutions that protect our lives and benefit our children.

This is a peaceful event, we ask that both protesters as well as police involved keep level heads as much as possible and do not escalate situations. We understand tensions and emotions are high however we ask all those in attendance not to escalate situations to incite violence.

Banners, posters, and voices are encouraged! Make yourself heard! PLEASE WEAR A MASK. We are not only combating white supremacy but we are still dealing with COVID-19.

Finally, please note the weather on Saturday is supposed to be sunny with a high of 71 degrees.

Please share any suggestions or questions you may have. This is a work in progress and we will always welcome different ideas and perspectives as we work together to demand change and equality for all.
