An event every week that begins at 12:00 am on Saturday, repeating until August 11, 2019 12:00 am
Cecilia Vicuña: Lo Precario/The Precarious focuses on the body of work the Chilean artist has been building since the 1960s: small, ephemeral sculptures made from cast-off, everyday materials. The show will include new works Vicuña will make from materials found in and around the Wex and Columbus. It’s curated by Michael Goodson, Senior Curator of Exhibitions for the Wex, and Assistant Curator Lucy Zimmerman.
Jason Moran is the first museum exhibition of the jazz performer’s visual art, featuring 48 objects ranging from intimate charcoal drawings to grand sculptural installations inspired by great jazz venues, to video collaborations with artists including Joan Jonas, Lorna Simpson, Glenn Ligon, and Kara Walker. It’s organized by the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, and curated by Adrienne Edwards, the former Curator at Large, Visual Arts, for the Walker, with Danielle Jackson, former Mellon Interdisciplinary Fellow, Visual Arts.
The shows will be on view June 1–August 11.
A Spring Exhibitions Preview will take place on Friday, May 31, 5–8 PM, for Cecilia Vicuña: Lo Precario/The Precarious and accompanying exhibitions Barbara Hammer: In This Body and Jason Moran.
A curator tour, Michael Goodson on Cecilia Vicuña and Jason Moran, will take place Thursday, June 27 at 5:30 PM.
A short film by Vicuña, ¿Qué es para usted la poesía/ What is Poetry to You? (1980), will be presented July 1-31 in The Box, the Wex’s permanent space for video presentation.
