Cartoon Crossroads Columbus (CXC)

October 1

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every day that begins at 12:00 am, repeating until October 4, 2020 12:00 am

Like many large events this year, due to safety and health concerns, CXC will be an online festival and can be seen at CartoonCrossroadsColumbus.org as well as on related platforms. Festival organizers are committed to maintaining CXC’s welcoming atmosphere and to uphold their reputation for high caliber events.

Many of CXC’s programs will continue in their traditional time and dates, hosted by the partner Columbus arts organizations that collaborate with CXC on programming including the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum, the Wexner Center for the Arts, the Columbus College of Art and Design, and the Columbus Museum of Art. These programs will be available to view for free on CXC’s website and other social media channels.

“CXC weekend will be filled with live, interactive events,” said Interim Executive Director Jerzy Drozd. “Some will require registration, but all will be free to attend, and we’re simulcasting the live events to the CXC website for those who miss registration. We’re creating rich and meaningful programs for a variety of comics readers and creators, as has been our mission since our first festival in 2015.”

CXC 2020 guests include Shing Yin Khor (THE AMERICAN DREAM? A JOURNEY ON ROUTE 66), Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Connor (HARLEY QUINN), Vita Ayala (MORBIUS, MAGIC: THE GATHERING: CHANDRA), and Faith Erin Hicks (ONE YEAR AT ELLSMERE, PUMPKINHEADS). Underground cartoonists Diane Noomin (DIDI GLITZ, TWISTED SISTERS) and Kim Deitch (REINCARNATION STORIES, THE BOULEVARD OF BROKEN DREAMS), will also participate in programming. The authors of SUNNY SIDE UP, Jennifer and Matt Holm, will be part of programming for kids and families. Ebony Flowers, the author of HOT COMB will also be a guest and more guests will be announced in the weeks to come.

”We are delighted with the talented lineup that is planned for this year,” said CXC vice president Lucy Shelton Caswell. “The opportunity to expand CXC participation around the world via our online schedule is exciting.”

Poster and logo creator Ben Towle is a four-time Eisner nominated Columbus-based cartoonist and educator (OYSTER WAR). The space station in the image represents the physical festival locations, with an astronaut interacting while reading a comic.

“CXC has been one of my favorite festivals since I first exhibited way back in its initial year,” CXC logo and poster artist Ben Towle said. “Getting to draw the poster for the fifth anniversary year feels like coming full circle–especially since I live here in Columbus now. I don’t quite know Columbus well enough yet to drive to all the locations on the poster, but at least I can draw them now!”

The festival’s events will be streamed live and available for download via the CXC website October 1-4, 2020. A full program schedule and guest list will be released closer to the event.
