Artist Reception & Opening: Sunday, July 28, 3-5pm
Calvin and Erika both create flawlessly sculpted animals or figures as main characters in their work. Their narratives follow these characters as they grapple symbolically with the concept of fear and anxiety.
In this body of work, Calvin uses anthropomorphic bird-like imagery to explore and overcome the yearning to take flight in the face of overwhelming situations. Conversely, Erika’s new work illustrates the making of an unlikely friendship through the peaceful acceptance of these fears and anxieties.
Ceramic artists Calvin Ma and Erika Sanada met while receiving their MFA degrees from Academy of Art University. Their work has been exhibited and published worldwide. They currently live and share a studio in San Francisco, California.
