The best parts of Spring are the long-awaited sunshine and freshly sprouting plants. This workshop will use the sun and local Ohio herbs to create unique sun prints, or cyanotypes, one of the oldest forms of photographic printing.
Workshop participants will take a foraging walk around The Fort’s industrial site with Ohio Herb Center Educator and Folk Herbalist, Amanda Ferguson, identifying herbs, learning about their medicinal, cosmetic, and culinary uses, and tasting infusions made with the plants. Our collected herb specimens will then become the subject matter of our cyanotype prints, made by placing the herbs in contact with photo-sensitive paper and exposing the paper to the sun. Once the prints are exposed and rinsed, the outline of the herbs will be stenciled in white amidst a brilliant cyan-blue background. Each participant will take home a stack of four prints.
Columbus Printed Arts Center’s new Fort neighbors, Wild Ohio Brewing Company, will also be on site with a selection of their flavorful locally brewed, gluten free tea beers for workshop participants to taste. Learn about WOBC’s unique ingredients and how they use fruit and herbs to craft distinct flavor combinations in their brewing process.
Ticket sales end Wednesday, May 22nd, 11:30pm.
This workshop will take place mostly outdoors, so please dress appropriately.
