Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its Future, Global Impacts

June 5, 2018 11:30 am @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm

Technology has long been a transformative force in education, whether it was the overhead projector, Scantron testing, the introduction of computer laboratories, or the onset of massive open online courses (MOOCs). Over the decades, educators and students have adapted to and welcomed new technologies in successive waves. The current big “wave” that is already impacting the educational sector is artificial intelligence (AI), according to numerous experts. As a columnist for Forbes recently noted, “it does look as if AI could be the real deal, a technology that will have a significant impact on teaching and learning, and bring the holy grail of education – personalized learning for every student – that bit closer.”

New technologies utilizing machine learning are disrupting today’s classrooms in ways that give creative and innovative tools to educators and students alike. Given the pace of AI development currently under way, K-12 classrooms as we know them will undergo exciting ways that reflect an interconnected world. Last year, China unveiled a plan that puts AI at the center of its educational strategy through the year 2030 and has begun incorporating AI into its classrooms. In the United States, India, Canada, across Europe and Asia, the collective global endeavor to strengthen its educational systems using the latest AI technologies is moving forward at an unprecedented pace.

How will AI transform the world’s classrooms of tomorrow? How can students and educators capitalize on the latest AI developments to their best advantages? In what ways can AI help solve the world’s most pressing problems? To discuss these and other questions, the Columbus Council on World Affairs invites you to join us on June 5 with the following distinguished speaker:

Mo-Yun Fong, Director, Operational Excellence, Google Technical Solutions.
