Urban Cultural Arts Foundation (UCAF) presents this twelve-week exhibition and invited Abi “Soulman” Fakeye, well known international woodcarver and mixed media artist.
Abi Fakeye is from the household of traditional woodcarvers from Ila-Orangun in Osun State Nigeria. He started carving wood at the age of seven under the tutelage of his father (late) Akin Fakeye. Now living in the UK, all-rounder artist Abi Fakeye is still working as a woodcarver and also is creating and exploring mixed-media art like TextoDrawing, SmokedDrawing and Mirror Art. The „Soulman“ says about these art styles: „TextoDrawing is my discovery. The name occurred because it’s an art of combining real textiles with drawings. The figures’ drawings and background are made with inks while real textile clothes are used for the body area of the figures in the composition.“

Curator of this exhibition is Chief Baba Shongo Obadina who is excited about this special show featuring long term artist friend Abi Fakeye. Chief Shongo announces: “After the opening reception we will have several workshops during the first week of the show, workshops lead by Abi. Thursday May 2 we are planning an adult workshop. The theme: „Handmade Greeting Cards“ and a children workshop on Saturday, May 4. Theme will be„Nature, Prints and Colors“. A Lecture, lead by Abi, is scheduled on Sunday, May 5, 4pm – 7pm „The Genesis of Art and its implementation by Mankind“
