Annual Paint Out

June 6 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

On Saturday, June 6th, 2020 the Dublin Area Art League is hosting the 17th Annual Paint Out event in Historic Dublin.

The event is meant to be fun and casual: the public can enjoy strolling through the streets of Dublin and watch artists painting and drawing outdoors. Anyone is invited to bring sketchbooks, pencils or art tools of choice to draw and paint along with artists.

Artists ages 16 and older can register to enter the “En Plein Air” (French for “in the open air”) art contest.
The Paint Out competition challenges artists to produce a piece in a few hours. Artists have from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM to find a spot/subject and create a piece of work in Historic Dublin, anywhere between Karrer Barn and Veterans Park.
Registration is $15 per one entry. All 2D media are allowed, except digital and photography; any style and any subject found in Historic Dublin are acceptable.

“I hope to see many from the community that come out to watch artists painting and drawing outdoors.” Says Robie Benve, Dublin Area Art League Vice President and Paint Out event chair. “Anyone is invited to bring art supplies and draw or paint alongside the professional artists.”

A public reception to celebrate the exhibit and announce the winners will be held on June 11, at 6:30 pm, at the Upper Arlington Main Library.

For those entering the Paint Out competition, the blank surface that will be used to create the piece must be stamped on the back at time of registration. The registration tent will be located at the intersection of Bridge and High Street, in Historic Dublin.
Registrations are accepted from 9 am to noon, with a fee of $15 that covers the first entry.

Pieces entered in the Paint Out competition will be exhibited at the Upper Arlington Main Library, until July 11th. All entries need to be appropriately framed and include a wire hanger to be exhibited.

Judging will determine the winners. This year the Juror is renowned artist Mark Gingerich, a founding member of the Ohio Plein Air Society and a member of the American Impressionists Society.

The piece deemed to be Best of Show winner will receive $200 in cash. First, Second, and Third place winners will receive $100, $75, and $50 respectively. More awards will be added as sponsors step in.
The event and awards are partially funded by the Dublin Arts Council through a Community Arts Grant to encourage community engagement, cultivate creativity and foster life-long learning through the arts.

The yearly event is hosted by the Dublin Area Art League (DAAL), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports and encourages its artist members through interaction with fellow artists; educates through workshops, demonstrations, and lectures; and provides opportunities for exhibits of local art to the community through multiple venues.

Since its inception in 1985, DAAL has grown and represents many varied talents from beginner to professional. We are an inclusive group that seeks to foster a social environment and a welcoming environment. Membership is open to any artists and art enthusiasts living or creating in and around central Ohio.
