This year, forget the box of chocolates. Take your Valentine out for a decadent chocolate dessert at one of our city’s independent restaurants. Here are 10 great ideas.

Barcelona

263 E. Whittier St., Columbus, OH 43206

To cap off your meal at this Spanish restaurant, go with the Pastel de Chocolate. This warm chocolate pudding cake dessert is served with vanilla ice cream and the pastry chef recommends pairing it with a ruby port.

CBC Restaurant

525 Short St., Columbus, OH 43215

Reese’s Cup lovers will adore CBC’s Peanut Butter Buster dessert. It’s rich fudge cake topped with peanut butter ice cream and Spanish peanuts, drizzled in caramel and chocolate.

Chocolate Cafe

1855 Northwest Blvd., Columbus, OH 43212

S’mores are a beloved summertime campfire treat, but you can order them anytime of year at Chocolate Cafe in Grandview. They serve Traditional S’mores as well as Buckeye S’mores with peanut butter, Monkey S’mores with bananas, and Strawberry and Chocolate S’mores with sliced strawberries and dark chocolate.

Copious

Copious wins for best chocolate dessert name, hands down: the OMGodiva. This chocolate pie has a double chocolate shortbread crust and is topped with a raspberry-marcona almond truffle and raspberry puree.

Elevator Brewery & Draught Haus

161 N. High St., Columbus, OH 43215

Chocolate and beer make an unexpectedly great pairing, especially in Elevator’s Buckeye Brownie. It’s a warm chocolate brownie topped with local Johnson’s Peanut Butter Buckeye Blitz ice cream, drizzled in chocolate sauce made with Elevator’s own Nut Brown Ale.

Figlio Wood-Fired Pizza

1369 Grandview Ave., Columbus, OH 43212

Figlio’s Double Chocolate Red Velvet Cake is a beautiful rendition of a classic cake. You’ll get three towering layers of house-made chocolate red velvet cake with white chocolate filling, frosted in a dark chocolate sour cream frosting.

Milestone 229

229 Civic Center Dr., Columbus, OH 43215

Drink your dessert at Milestone with the Chocolate Dipped Raspberry cocktail. Stoli Razberi vodka is mixed with Godiva Dark Chocolate liqueur and Godiva White Chocolate liqueur.

Pistacia Vera

541 S. Third St., Columbus, OH 43215

You won’t find a chocolate dessert more show-stopping than Pistacia’s Chocolate Bombe. It’s a dome of chocolate filled with marsala-infused chocolate mousse and layers of chocolate buttermilk cake, dusted in cocoa powder and studded with a chocolate bar.

The Refectory Restaurant & Bistro

1092 Bethel Rd., Columbus, OH 43220

An entremet is a French dessert that’s typically a multi-layered mousse-based cake, and Refectory’s Triple Chocolate Framboise Entremet is an excellent example. Chocolate soufflé cake is layered with ganache and chocolate mouse, topped with Raspberry Bavarian cream.

Z Cucina di Spirito
