Frequently touted as one of the country’s best underground indie-rock bands, Earwig is set to release its long-awaited fifth studio album, Pause for the Jets, on its own LFM Records imprint in early 2016. If the initial reception to its lead single “Wasted on You” (featuring Columbus singer-songwriter Lydia Loveless) is any indication, the quartet will be celebrating its twenty-fourth year with certain success. “Wasted” is currently in exclusive rotation on CD102.5 FM, and has perpetually landed in the station’s Top 5 Most Requested Songs of the Day since its October 21st debut.
Earwig first formed in 1992, gaining attention when it shopped its five-song demo EP, Dead Slow Hoot, to various labels. Its first studio album, Mayfeeder, was released two years later, followed by critically-acclaimed Bored in Chicago (1995), Past Perfect Tense (2000), and Center of the Earth (2006). The band’s most recent album, Gibson Under Mountain, arrived in 2010. The band has made several personnel changes over the years, undergoing a partial line-up revision in 2015 with the addition of newcomers Nick Nocera (drums), and James McGee-Moore (background vocals) to founding members Lizard McGee (guitar and vocals) and Costa Hondroulis (bass and vocals).
Fellow Columbusites Cherry Chrome and Toledo-based Secret Space will join Earwig at Big Room Bar in the Brewery District (1036 South Front Street) on Saturday, November 21st at 8:30 pm for an all-ages show. Tickets are $10 (available at the door; $2 surcharge for guests under 21 years of age).
You can follow Earwig on Twitter and Facebook, or visit the band’s official website.
