Drexel Theatre Closing for Renovations
The historic Drexel Theatre will be closing temporarily starting March 14th for a series of updates and upgrades. The building’s lobby and marquee will undergo renovations, restoring the property to its original Art Deco style.
The marquee upgrade includes replacement of neon tubing, new lighting and a rehab of the original ceiling. The entrance lobby will see the restoration of the original terrazzo flooring, with repairs and repainting planned for the walls and ceilings.
The main lobby will see extensive renovations, which includes the complete replacement of the concession counter, a removal of the drop ceiling and a restoration of the original crown molding ceiling.
Recently, The Drexel has completed other renovations, which includes digital project equipment upgrades, HVAC system upgrades, the reconstruction of the building’s restrooms, and other projects. Future renovations are planned that will update theater seating, flooring and new stage lighting for special events.
All renovations in this current phase — designed by M+A Architects and executed by Elford — are expected to take approximately three months to complete.
