After going gluten-free and grain-free several years ago, Jen Cuevas saw her health improve dramatically. Many people might have stopped there, but Cuevas decided to launch local bakery The Gluten & Grain Free Gourmet to share her recipes and foods with others who might benefit from a similar change in diet.
“All of our products are designed to support optimal health, yet they still taste delicious,” she explains. “Every item we make is free of gluten, grains, soy, dairy, peanuts, refined sugars, and artificial colors or flavors. We also have nut-free & egg-free (vegan) items, following our mission to support those who follow specific dietary lifestyles. We use as many local, non-GMO, and organic ingredients as possible , and all items are produced in a dedicated gluten, grain, and soy free facility to guard against cross-contamination.”
Cuevas will be showcasing samples of several of her treats, including the Ohio Raspberry Double Chocolate Cake, at the upcoming Healthy Bites festival on Friday, July 29th from 6pm to 9pm at the Columbus Museum of Art. The cake is protein-based, make from house-ground almond flour, local pastured eggs from a non-GMO organic farm, organic cocoa powder and organic coconut oil.
“This time of year, thanks to Ohio’s bountiful berries, we get to top it off with a dark chocolate ganache and our own organic Ohio raspberry jam,” said Cuevas. “Our clients have described it as the best chocolate cake they’ve ever tasted, with or without gluten.”
Additionally, The Gluten & Grain Free Gourmet will be sampling vegan cashew butter chocolate chip cookies, no bake cookies, and “paleoatmeal”.
Healthy Bites will take place from 6pm-9pm at the newly renovated Columbus Museum of Art. Advance tickets are $30 and will include food samples, live entertainment, participatory yoga demos by Art of Yoga, admission to the current exhibits at The Columbus Museum of Art and a cash bar.
