Development appears to be coming to San Margherita, the tiny burg near the Marble Cliff Quarry. Landowners are beginning to sell their century-old homes to developers, and a long-range plan is coming together to create a retail center near the intersection of Trabue Road and Rt. 33.

Skip Weiler, president of the Robert Weiler Co., said he’s amassing property in San Margherita for a retail development, although the details haven’t been worked out yet. But it’s clear that the immigrant community that formed a century ago could have a very different future.

Weiler said his company is working with other landowners in San Margherita to amass enough property for a supermarket-anchored center along Trabue Road. The area could serve both the West Side and Upper Arlington.
