Deschutes Pop-Up Pub Arrives in Columbus
This Saturday you can feed more hungry families with every beer you order. Deschutes Brewery is coming from Bend, Oregon and bringing its own street pub as part of the brewery’s national tour this summer. At each location they set up their bar, feature local eats and donate all of the proceeds to a local nonprofit.
“The ultimate craft beer block party, this 402-foot custom bar will be pouring beers from 60 taps, including a guest tap from local Land Grant Brewing,” read the press release. “For every dollar raised Mid-Ohio [Foodbank] will be able to provide 4 meals for the local community, so the more beer sold the more families fed.”
It will take 10 guys about eight hours to set up the bar, just to have it dismantled a few hours later. In the meantime, though, a variety of brews will be available, and local chefs Mike Suclescy and Chris DeVol of The Thurman Cafe and Mike Frame of 101 Beer Kitchen will be working with Deschutes Brewery Chef Jeff Usinowicz in a collaborative culinary effort.
Joey Pleich, Field Marketing Manager for Deschutes Brewery, said Columbus was a prime destination because of how residents have embraced Deschutes “products and culture.” He said their commitment to donating to local nonprofits, like the Mid-Ohio Foodbank this year and Cleveland’s Western Reserve Land Conservancy last year, was inspired by the community support they had in growing a new business in Bend.
“Without the support from our local community we would’ve never gotten to where we are now and we try our best to give back however we can,” Pleich said in an email. “We looked at a lot of different local nonprofits and after sitting down with me to Ohio food bank, taking a tour of their facility, meeting some of the families they help, and hearing about the passion behind what they do to help feed the needy in Columbus and beyond we felt inspired to supporting them with the proceeds from Street Pub.”
Street Pub will be at Genoa Park on July 9, from 2-10 p.m. After that, the 40,000 pound bar will be on its way to Chicago, IL, followed by Roanoke, VA. Admission is free for all ages, but VIP tickets are available, which can get you into exclusive beer tastings and the VIP lounge, where chefs will have special VIP-only goodies.
