Healthy Bites Preview: Darista Dips
If you’ve attended any of our other Best Bites events, then you’ve likely wound up in a food coma or two after gorging on pizza, barbecue, desserts or tacos over the past year. This month it’s time for something a little different as we turn our focus to the healthier side of the spectrum at Healthy Bites on Friday, July 29th. Over a dozen local restaurants and prepared food makers will be sampling some of their best creations for your tasting pleasure while you also enjoy food demonstrations, yoga workshops and full access to the Columbus Museum of Art for one night only.
Darista Dips is one of the many participants at Healthy Bites that will be putting their best food forward with an amazing dish that puts beets to good use. Business owner Dara Schwartz is prepping Roasted Beet “Steaks”, which are topped with pickled cucumber and corn salsa, a sherry reduction, and of course, the Roasted Beet Hummus from Darista Dips.
Four additional Darista Dips flavors will be available for individual sampling, which includes Moroccan Carrot Dip, Za’atar “Traditional” Hummus, Sweet Potato Coconut Curry Hummus and Roasted “Red Pepper” Hummus.
“The good news is, there’s more to these little dips than terrific names,” said CU Food Critic Miriam Bowers Abbott when she tasted several flavors shortly after their initial launch. “They’ve got flavor too.”
Healthy Bites will take place from 6pm-9pm at the newly renovated Columbus Museum of Art. Advanced tickets are $30 and will include food samples, live entertainment, participatory yoga demos by Art of Yoga, admission to the current exhibits at The Columbus Museum of Art and a cash bar.
Featured food vendors include Fusian, Root 23, Pocket Produce, Gluten & Grain Free Gourmet, CoffeeFit Bar, Banana Leaf, Krazy Kraut, Zest Juice Co., Food for Good Thought, Snowville Creamery, Darista Dips, Native Cold Press, Acre and more to be announced before the event!
A portion of the proceeds from all ticket sales will be donated to The Godman Guild. The Columbus Underground Best Bites event series have collectively raised over $16,000 for local charities since August 2014, with a goal of raising $20,000 for local charities in 2016.
