Local growler fill-up business The Daily Growler announced today that they’re planning to open a third location later this year at 702 South High Street, sandwiched between The Brewery District and German Village neighborhoods. And not only will visitors be able to fill up on beer, they’ll be able to fill up on tex-mex as well, since the restaurant side of the space will be operated by popular Athens-based Big Mamma’s Burritos.
“We’ve got a lot of people who come from German Village to our Upper Arlington store who say there aren’t enough places to drink craft beer close to home, so we’re really excited to see how our concept goes in a more urban area,” explained Daily Growler owner John Blakely. “We really like that South High corridor with Local Cantina doing well just down the street, and Katalina’s possibly going in next door.”
Blakely said that the new location will be similar to the other Daily Growler locations, offering both on-site consumption in the form of pints and flights of beer, with growler-fills for retail sale. The store will be divided into two 1,200 square foot floors with the main bar and Big Mamma’s restaurant on the ground floor with limited seating, and a smaller bar and more seating located upstairs.
“The building’s been vacant for quite awhile, so there’s a fair amount of build out to be done,” explained Blakely. “We’ll also be adding a High Street patio that wraps around the corner and connects to a patio in the back facing Pearl.”
Blakely said that the coupling with Big Mamma’s Burritos was a perfect fit, as their no-frills fast-casual food pairs well with their style of craft beer bar service. Previous Daily Growler locations have partnered with food trucks, so the small kitchen in the South High location is a natural extension of that model.
The South High Daily Growler is expected to open this Fall. In the meantime, anyone looking for a Big Mamma’s fix can find them during select hours at Park Street Patio.
