Crew Tops Timbers 3-2 in Home Game Win
It feels like an eternity (October 1, actually) since Columbus Crew SC were able to celebrate a home win, yet after a somewhat uneven start to the 2017 season Crew SC brushed away the ghost of MLS Cup 2015 with a 3-2 victory over that years party poopers, and unwilling beer targets, Portland Timbers.
The evening didn’t start out well for Crew SC when it took Portland just 4 minutes to find the back of the net, however, a stroke of luck in the 11th minute saw the ball ricochet in front of Justin Meram, and the Crew SC forward would’ve found it harder to miss the target than blast home the equalizer.
Ola Kamara’s hot streak continued as he put the home team into the lead shortly after with a well taken chip over an out-rushing Jake Gleeson in the Portland net.
A scrappy end to the first half saw Portland’s Dairon Asprilla equalize and send the teams to the locker rooms on even terms.
The second half was a evenly contested event with both teams carving holes in shaky defenses as both teams relied on the strength of their forward lines.
With time ticking away Crew SC debutant Niko Hansen found himself in the right place at the right time after Kamara’s attempted belly-bash was parried into the path of Hansen, who made no mistake putting the ball into the back of the net and earning all the points for the home team.
