Did you know that your Columbus Crew SC were unbeaten in 13 regular-season matches going into Saturday nights game against DC United? Well, that unbeaten streak is now at 14 as Crew SC brushed their old rivals aside with a convincing 3-1 victory in front of the hundreds of fans that bothered to come out to support their home team.
The evening brought a handful of milestones for Crew SC as Milton Valenzuela, Ricardo Clark and Pedro Santos grabbed their first goals for the club while midfield talisman Federico Higuain made history by joining the MLS elite 50-50 club with his 50th assist in the 40th minute.
After a slow start to the game, Valenzuela opened the scoring for Columbus in the 20th minute before DC pulled level through Yamil Asad.
Crew SC piled on the pressure late into the half and were rewarded with back to back goals from Clark and Santos that all but ended the game as a contest as a shell-shocked DC ended the half already looking to end another game without a win.
The second-half continued with a heavy amount of Crew SC pressure as the home team took full control to professionally see out the game to take all three points that sets them nicely on top of the Eastern Conference in this very early 2018 Season.
Crew SC will be looking to keep the momentum going next week as Vancouver Whitecaps come to town, kick off at 3pm.
