Crew Defeats Real Salt Lake 2-0 in Red White & Crew Home Game
The Crew put together one of it’s most professional performances of the year to brush aside Real Salt Lake and collect all three points in front of a boisterous Crew Stadium for the annual Red White & Crew game.
The game was delayed until 9pm due to the havoc-wrecking storm on Friday that left Crew Stadium powerless till late Saturday afternoon. A reported attendance of 19,674 came out to enjoy the sights of a glow-stick packed Nordecke and several Mexican wave attempts.
First half goals from Tony Tchani and Eddie Gaven gave the Crew a comfortable lead in a game they always looked in complete control of.
Tchani scored his second goal in consecutive games after side-footing home a cutback cross from the lively Emilio Renteria.
Eddie Gaven doubled the Crew’s lead just before half time when he fired Josh Williams’ cross off the underside of the crossbar and beyond the stranded Nick Rimando in the RSL goal.
Columbus are now 6-5-4 for the year and sitting mid table in the Eastern Conference. The next home game takes place July 14 when Crew will face Sporting KC.
